James Wick is originally from the small farm town of Sheridan Illinois, located in rural Northern Illinois but has now set roots in Martin TN after purchasing a small farm in 1999. A graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin, receiving his BS in agriculture with emphasis in Ornamental Horticultural Sciences (1998) and had also studied horticulture at Joliet Junior College in Joliet Illinois. He has a diverse career history within the horticultural industry which includes 2 years of working as a professional estate gardener in northern New Mexico, a landscaper in the suburbs of Chicago, and being the head horticulturalist for a specialty conifer grower in N. Illinois. Currently he is the owner of Peach Grove Nursery (a specialty production and mail order nursery) in Martin, TN, as well as the Nursery Manager for Morris Nursery and Landscapes Inc. in Jackson, TN. In addition to the career, he is an avid plantsman and botanical researcher who has several plant developments in commercial production within the U.S., Canada, and Europe. He is involved in the community, maintaining an adopt-a-site for the City of Martin, has donated plant materials to UTM, the West TN Ag research center (Jackson), Cheekwood Gardens and other botanic gardens, and has recently provided the seed used in establishing the first pharmaceutical ginkgo orchard in Kenya, Africa under a sustainable agriculture program. |
